| 6.1 Main data source(s) for the external debt statistics | (i) Long-term loans and bonds issued on capital markets abroad: For all sectors, data on these liabilities are obtained individually from the external debt database managed jointly by the Ministry of Finance and the central bank.
(ii) Direct investments: These data are derived from statements to the central bank, either from the banking system or via the annual enterprise survey. These data only cover loans between affiliated enterprises.
(iii) Government: information on money market instruments, securities and bonds issued on the domestic market, and other liabilities is obtained monthly from the Ministry of Finance accounting data;
(iv) Central bank: information on these instruments is derived from the central bank monthly accounting data;
(v) Deposit-taking corporations, except the Central Bank: information on these instruments is derived from the financial system’s accounting data;
(vi) Other sectors: commitments in the form of financial assets are derived from banking system statements and are reflected in the monetary statistics; commitments in the form of nonfinancial assets are deduced from the balance of payments position. |
