5.3 Other methods and weights used for valuation of debt securitiesIn order to calculate market values, BoP flows during the reporting period are converted into nominal transactions and added to the nominal stocks of the previous reporting date. The conversion is performed using average market prices and, possibly, exchange rates for individual instruments and sectors. Finally, the new nominal stocks are converted into market values using the market prices and exchange rates as at the reporting date. However, the data for short-term debt securities are compiled by modified accumulation of flows; market valuation is not applied.

6.0 Data sources/Compiling Organizations
6.1 Main data source(s) for the external debt statisticsData sources: Germany’s external debt data is compiled mainly on the basis of several stock statistics. The main data sources are: (i) the monthly stock statistics on the external liabilities of domestic MFIs and of domestic enterprises and general government arising from financial operations and trade credits; (ii) the annual statistics on direct investment positions, which are used for compiling foreign direct investment stocks; (iii) the accounts of the Deutsche Bundesbank for monetary authorities´ liabilities; (iv)the portfolio investment liabilities are derived from modified accumulated flows. In order to calculate market values, BoP flows during the reporting period are converted into nominal transactions and added to the nominal stocks of the previous reporting date. (v) secondary data sources for cross-checking purposes (e. g. securities holdings statistics of the Deutsche Bundesbank).

8.0 Revision Policy
8.1 Data revision policyRegular schedule -Data are preliminary when first released. When first publishing the provisional External Debt figures for the most re-cent quarter, the data for the previous quarter are revised. Simultaneously to the dissemination of IIP data in September, all External Debt data for the four previous years and for the first quarter of the actual year are revised due to the availability of more detailed data sources. Further revisions may occur due to exceptional circumstances. This is in line with the revision schedule / policy for the quarterly German IIP.
